With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, February invites us to celebrate love—not just in romantic relationships, but in the passions that fuel us, the connections that sustain us, and the relationships that bring deeper meaning to our lives.
As I reflect on my journey over the past 30 years, I am reminded of how intricately love, connection, and authenticity are woven into the fabric of everything we do, both personally and professionally. Together, these elements create a powerful foundation for transformation—not just for ourselves but for those around us.
In 1993, the birth of my first daughter ignited a spark that forever changed my life. Holding her in my arms, I felt a profound sense of clarity and purpose. I wanted to contribute to a new kind of corporate future, one that valued not just productivity, but humanity and connection.
At the time, I had spent years in administrative roles across diverse industries, observing a business world that often felt disconnected from deeper meaning. Armed with 12 weeks of maternity leave and a bold vision for change, I took a leap and started one of the first Virtual Assistant companies. My mission was to redefine administrative support—not just as a service, but as a relationship infused with care, collaboration, and relational depth. Looking back, I see now that I wasn’t just pioneering a business; I was co-creating a new way of working together, one that values both results and relationships.
That spark of purpose and passion continues to inspire how I approach leadership and life. At its core, my work centers around a simple yet profound belief: true well-being—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual—is essential for living with purpose and creating meaningful impact. When we stray from our authentic selves, stress and disconnection creep in. But when we align with our values and honor who we are at our core, we cultivate fulfillment and meaningful resilience.
Of course, maintaining this alignment can be challenging. Demands on our time, energy, and focus are constant. Yet I’ve found that practices grounded in connection, reflection, and self-compassion can help us stay rooted. Whether it’s pausing to appreciate the beauty of nature, setting aside time for gratitude and reflection, or leaning into the support of meaningful relationships, these moments create space for recalibration and clarity.
Self-compassion has also been a cornerstone of my journey. For those of us who tend toward perfectionism—and I consider myself included—it can feel counterintuitive to embrace struggle as an opportunity for growth. Yet over time, I have learned that when we give ourselves grace, we unlock a deeper sense of calm and empathy—qualities that ripple outward in our interactions with others.
This February, let’s take time to reflect on what we love most about our work, our connections, and our lives. Together, let’s commit to leading with love, not just in what we do, but in how we show up for ourselves and others. In doing so, we create a foundation for inspired action, meaningful connection, and lasting impact.
